In Educación Creadora the aim is to regain our inner capacity to play.
Our weekly painting workshop has a diverse group of people. The supervising ‘assistant’ looks after group members individually and the overall group dynamic in general. There are rules to make this happen in a relaxed way and the results of this play are not works of art, to be regarded by others for open evaluation, instead what’s created is what Arno Stern called Formulation, a complex, original, universal manifestation of graphic details and traces that evolve, regardless of culture, race or time… Both children and adults can give themselves to authentic play, to follow their own inner instinct to create in our workshop which has been specifically prepared to allow this personal investigation to take place. It’s a space free of judgement.
The paintings are made and kept in the studio. They can be the work of one session or of several days.
One learns to acquire skills and abilities (that are often stifled by our cultural framework) which allow us to evolve and develop through these traces and creations. Belonging to a group that shares the same interest, to play and to paint, facilitates this process from a beautiful place of joy, calm and authenticity. It also helps develop an individuality and eventually a sense of self accomplishment.
Our weekly Juego de Configuración workshop shares the same principles. Here the work can manifest in more collaborative ways to play using a range of materials including cardboard, strings, tape, scissors and fabrics. When the session is over the constructions get dismantled and put away.
